A Jubilee Garden Party | The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
This summer, the streets and windows of the United Kingdom will be embellished with Union Jacks, as we celebrate a momentous day for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. On the Bank Holiday weekend of the 2nd – 5th June 2022 Queen Elizabeth II will be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee, marking her 70th year reign of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Realms.
A little bit of history about Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II was born on the 21st April 1926. When her father, King George VI, died on the 6th February 1952, Queen Elizabeth II became his successor at just 25 years old. Queen Elizabeth II became equivalent in rank and title to a king of seven Commonwealth countries and head of the Commonwealth before her coronation took place, over a year later on the 2nd June 1953 at Westminster Abbey.
The UK has a wonderful history of hosting parties to mark this national celebration and the most popular way to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee is with a street party. All across the country Union Jacks are hung proudly between streets, outside houses and shops. Smokey BBQ’s fill the air in gardens and large tables are laden in handheld Union Jack flags, as sandwiches, scones, cakes and drinks are passed round in celebration.
How to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee?
We are celebrating in true quintessential Jubilee style with a spectacular British garden party, fit for Her Majesty, the Queen herself! If you’d like some inspiration on unforgettable garden party ideas, then keep on reading.
Queen’s Jubilee garden decor inspiration
Firstly, let’s start with some decorations. Set the scene and make this a truly special event filled with beautiful fabric bunting around your garden. Why not welcome your guests with some “party this way” signs, which you can create simply using paper bunting? This idea looks so elegant on our Chelsea Grey & Buff Rattan Wicker Planters. Then add some soft accessories for the ultimate cosy vibe, such as cushions and rugs for added style and texture.
Quintessential arrival drinks
Create a welcome drink station that your guests can help themselves to when they arrive. Set up a table with traditional British summer drinks including a fresh jug of fruity Pimm’s and fruit juices for children, placed in a stylish wooden crate just like our Slatted Effect Wooden Storage Crate for ease.
A Queen’s Platinum Jubilee marquee
To keep all your food sheltered from sunlight and the elements, set up a sophisticated marquee and decorate it with patriotic bunting and flags. For elegance, lay your table with a royal blue table runner and little bottles of dainty gypsophila. Now your table is decorated, it’s time to choose your food.
What food to prepare for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee?
Create the ultimate spread of soft spongey sandwiches, a selection of sweet cakes and tasty savoury snacks. Coronation chicken was a dish first served at Her Majesty’s coronation banquet in 1953. It is a combination of cold cooked chicken meat, herbs and spices in a creamy mayonnaise sauce and tastes perfect in a tea sandwich. Was there ever a more perfect occasion for this tea sandwich filling? Add more of your favourite fillings such as ham and mustard, egg and cress and of course, let’s not forget traditional cucumber and cream cheese tea sandwiches. Don’t forget to add little Union Jack toothpicks for a charming touch to your spread.
Choose delicious savoury snacks like mini quiche, divine sausage rolls and bag of luxury crisps from Two Farmers Crisps. Two Farmers Crisps are not only absolutely divine but they are also the first company in the UK to create 100% compostable crisp packets, (so you can indulge without harming the environment). Their hand cooked crisps are fresh, crunchy and absolutely delicious. For patriotic red, white and blue colours, choose the Hereford Bullshot Beef flavour, the Lightly Salted flavour and the Woodland Mushroom and Wild Garlic flavour (a personal favourite of ours).
Then complete your plate with something sweet. Choose from a selection of scones, clotted cream with strawberry jam, a cupcake or a slice of light, fruity Victoria Sponge with cream on top. All of which are displayed in a collection of our rustic wicker storage baskets and storage trays, for immaculate presentation.
Don’t forget to keep your guests’ glasses topped up long into the evening with crisp champagne, chilling nicely in a party basket. A perfect statement piece and conversation starter, wow your guests with this luxuriously hand-crafted Deluxe Wicker Garden Party Basket. Perfect for any occasion, but especially one to celebrate Her Majesty’s achievements.
As the night draws in, have some blankets ready for your guests, switch on your twinkly lights and continue your party into the evening. Why not add some fairy lights around the edge of the marquee for a gentle, romantic glow? Then pop some candles inside some wicker lanterns for a mellow and cosy ambience.
