How To Pull Off A Perfect Picnic At Home
Picnics have got to be one of our favourite pastimes because there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy this quintessential summer tradition and as our favourite national week “National Picnic Week” approaches, we have curated some of our favourite ways to tailor a picnic (and you needn’t venture far to enjoy it)
Usually a picnic is associated with an outdoor activity in the park or on the beach, however we just love the simplicity of picnics at home, especially as sometimes the weather isn’t always on our side here in the UK! There’s nothing more perfect than enjoying a picnic in the privacy of your own garden or perhaps even in your lounge amongst your plush throws and pillows.
Whether you’re looking to keep the children entertained or you’d like ideas to arrange a special date night at home, we have come up with some brilliant ideas to create the perfect picnic at home to suit all the occasions.
A SOLO PICNIC AT HOME
Picnics are very popular to enjoy as a group with friends or with family, however we sometimes forget that it’s nice to seek solace and enjoy “il dolce far niente”, the Italian phrase for “the sweetness of doing nothing”, by savouring a few quiet moments spent in your garden. Lay your blanket on the grass and arrange your selection of treats. The best thing about a solo picnic is that you may bring whatever treats you like (and no one can question your choices). We suggest bringing two types of beverages, a glass of fizz of course and perhaps a nice cool glass of freshly prepared lemonade. You could even bring that book along that you’ve been meaning to read for ages? Our Two Person Checked Wicker Picnic Basket is the perfect picnic basket for a solo picnic, complete with plates, cutlery and a cool bag to keep your food fresh.

A ROMANTIC PICNIC DATE NIGHT
Nothing is more romantic then putting in the effort to show someone that you have thought about them and a very simple way to make your loved one feel special, is to organise a perfect “date night” by preparing a romantic picnic for two at home.

Set the lounge up with some plush pillows and blankets, neatly organised on the floor and dim the lights for a relaxed mood. You could even surprise your other half by adding the soft glow of fairy lights or tea lights. After you’ve enjoyed your picnic, why not enjoy the sunset together in your garden and don’t forget the bubbles! A bottle of champagne or prosecco is a must on a romantic picnic and if you choose to have your picnic outside, be sure to keep it nice and chilled in a chilled basket carrier.
A CHILDREN’S TEDDY BEAR PICNIC
A teddy bear picnic is such a great idea to have to keep the children occupied for a while. Allow them to invite all of their favourite toys as their guests and prepare some delicious snacks that they can enjoy together. In our blog “what to pack for a perfect picnic” we suggest setting up a spread of light finger food for children, which are healthy and easy to eat. Not to mention this gives you an opportunity to enjoy 30 minutes of peace to either clean or relax inside with a well-deserved cuppa.

A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY PICNIC
Finally, if you’re a large household looking to celebrate a special birthday and don’t fancy venturing too far, why not set up a very special afternoon tea picnic in the garden? Decorate the garden with banners and balloons and complete the birthday set up with a feast of finger sandwiches, cakes and some indulgent scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam.

Complete that special birthday by popping a glass of champagne with their birthday cake.
Finally, to complete your perfect picnic make sure you choose from our wide range of luxurious picnic baskets to suit the occasion and your style.
